Failure to appear at the remote hearing may result in a default judgment entered in the appearing party's favor. The parties can access the hearing through the website link below or by using the Zoom App on a computer or smartphone, or by calling the telephone number below and connecting to the hearing through the phone. NOTICE REGARDING INTERPRETER You must notify the court at (651) 266-8253 not less than five (5) business days before the hearing if an interpreter is needed. Court Procedures during Zoom Hearings A Zoom hearing is the same as a courtroom hearing. You must act in a Zoom hearing as you would if you were appearing before a judge in the courthouse. Be on time. Dress appropriately. Find a quiet place for the hearing with a good internet connection. Do not do other things while you are in the Zoom hearing. Mute yourself when you are not speaking. Follow the court's rules and directions. The judge and participants will need to see and hear you during the Zoom hearing. This will also allow you to see and hear everything that happens in the Zoom hearing. If you cannot access a Zoom hearing with a device that has a camera and audio, you may call into the Zoom hearing with a phone. If the defendant does not appear at the hearing, the plaintiff may win this case by default, which means the plaintiff could be awarded a money judgment against the defendant. The judgment could include the amount the plaintiff requested in the Statement of Claim, as well as other fees and costs approved by the Judicial Officer. 2. If the plaintiff does not appear at the hearing, this case may be dismissed. If the defendant has filed a counterclaim, then a default judgment could be entered against the plaintiff. 3. The defendant may bring a counterclaim against the plaintiff. A counterclaim must be filed at least seven (7) days before the Conciliation Court hearing. 4. You must tell the Court if your address, email, or phone number changes. NOTICE REGARDING CONTINUANCES Change of Hearing Date: Continuance requests must be received in writing not less than five (5) business days (working days only; Saturday, Sunday, and holidays are NOT counted) before the court date. If the party requesting a continuance OR is filing any document and has not already paid the initial filing fee, the party must also pay the fee at the time of requesting a continuance or filing the document. The court administrator may change only one (1) hearing date per party. All other requests for a change of hearing date must be determined by the Judicial officer. All parties will be notified by the Court of any new hearing date. The Court, in its discretion, may assess costs of not more than $50.00, either absolute or conditional, to the other party as a condition of granting an order for a continuance of any case.
